Crafting Histories

Lahore x Glasgow

Crafting Histories is a collaborative project between the National College of Arts, The Walled City Lahore Authority and Glasgow Life Museums. A group of young participants from Lahore and Glasgow tuned into each other remotely and forged fresh connections between Pakistan and the UK through the traditional art practices of fresco work, mirror work and storytelling.

Crafting Histories investigated traditional craft practices represented in the collections and sites of all three partnering institutions. This exploration extended to include the oral traditions of Urdu, Persian, Punjabi and Gaelic storytelling.

The work displayed here is a culmination of a series of workshops, seminars and close conversations with master craftspeople; museum professionals, art historians and artists. These works offer reflections of community through conversations and connections through craft.
